It is our tradition at ROTOM to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with the elderly under our care in a joyful, fun and memorable way. In December 2009 ROTOM Uganda organized four Christmas parties for the elderly with a total of 400 guests, not including staff and volunteers. We conducted a service of thanksgiving and served a delicious meal and cake. We were able to present gifts to our seniors and they participated in joyous music and dancing. It was a blessing to see the elderly dancing and rejoicing at all the parties as if they were young again. They truly experienced the joy and peace brought by the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is moments like these that motivate all of us at ROTOM to continue doing the little we can, knowing God uses it to have immeasurable impact. Thank you so much for your support! Special thanks to ROTOM staff, project committee members, volunteers, and board members for their tireless efforts that made these ceremonies a great moment of joy for seniors. All of the seniors in ROTOM program are encouraged to attend weekly fellowships where they can gather together and talk to other seniors, sing songs, read the Bible, and eat a (very large) hot meal.

Batera Deziranta`s husband and all but one of her children have died, leaving her completely alone with only the sporadic aid of her living son, an alcoholic. When ROTOM found Deziranta, she was so ill she could not move and an infection in her head and ears had left her deaf.

I spent the week of May 15th visiting with the seniors and volunteers associated with ROTOM project in Kabale. While every day I have seen God’s hand in our work, this week was a clear manifestation of how dramatically God has touched and changed the lives of seniors to whom we minister.
